In need of an IKEA EXPEDIT bookcase? Don't bring the car

Right outside of Copenhagen, IKEA has finally cashed in on the number of bike riders. The store is now offering customers Velorbis bicycles to help them get their purchases home.

After you buy your items and put down a deposit on the bike (approximately $100 US, plus a seven dollar insurance policy) you can load them into the attached trailer and ride away.

Pluses: You're not burning fuel. You get great exercise. It's easier to maneuver the parking lot. You can scoff at the drivers jockeying for parking spots as you cruise away. And you can take the bike for an entire day and return it the next.

Minuses: You can't really lug home a new mattress. Cars in IKEA parking lots are ruthless. And, unlike your own car, you have to bring the bike back the next day (and, IKEA hopes, buy more stuff while you're there).

I'm curious to know whether you could ride your own bike and just rent the trailer, or if the bikes come with detachable baby seats. Either way, it's a step in the right direction.
